Republicans

If you’ve read much on this blog you probably think I’m a Republican. I have been most of my life, but I’m not sure what I am now. I think I identify myself more as an independent than anything else, because I think both Republicans and Democrats have been leading us down the wrong path since before I was born. The problem isn’t Republicans or Democrats, it’s politicians in general.

Why I’m Leaving the Republican Party

I’ve debated this decision for years. Ever since I wrote a letter to President Ronald Reagan as an elementary school child and got a response back I’ve considered myself a Republican and was proud of it. In officially declaring myself to no longer be a Republican I feel, in some ways, as though I’m a traitor or that I’m dooming…

Why “Shrink to Win” is a Good Strategy

WSJ’s Peggy Noonan claims “shrink to win” isn’t a good strategy. She’s referring to a statement by Sen. Jim DeMint of South Caroloina who said he’d rather have 30 good and reliable conservative senators than 60 unreliable Republicans. She goes on to say “Good luck stopping an agenda you call socialist with 30 hardy votes.”

Republicans vs. Democrats – Who Clearly Thinks and Who Blindly Follows?

I’ve always been entertained by the back and forth amongst Republicans and Democrats and conservatives and liberals as to who thinks and who follows. Republicans are hypocrites when it comes to promoting smaller government.

Julian E. Zelizer, a professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, claims that the GOP’s “small government” talk is hollow. I couldn’t agree more, and therein lies the secret behind Obama’s win in 2008. Obama did not win because young people were finally mobilized to vote, nor because of his campaign’s mastery of…

Republicans Don’t Get It

From an interview of Haley Barbour in the Wall Street Journal:

Another worrisome trend he mentions is the youth vote. “We’ve got young people who voted for Obama by better than a 2-to-1 margin. The data is very clear, that when people vote in their first two presidential elections for the same party, more than 80% of those

Why Are Republicans So Unpopular These Days?

A new poll shows 61 percent of the US holds Republicans in an unfavorable light. Many will misinterpret these results to mean that people don’t want conservative leadership anymore. But that doesn’t jive with other polls and the results of the elections. Conservative principles and standards (limited government, low taxes, freedom, individual responsibility, etc.) are still popular. Conservative…
